The mission of the County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) is to provide a quality, consumer-sensitive, holistic approach to Fort Bend County residents. CIHCP keeps pace with the county's growth and emphasizes education, wellness and preventive care. Services will be well coordinated, accessible, adequately financed, and effective in helping residents gain the maximum degree of personal independence that they are capable of achieving from health and social service systems.
The County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) is mandated by the Indigent Health Care and Treatment Act of 1985. According to Section 61 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, counties that are not fully served by a hospital district or a public hospital are responsible for administering an indigent health care program for indigent residents of all or any portion of the county not served by a hospital district or a public hospital. The program covers only medically necessary services.
A potential client must be a Fort Bend County resident. Their household composition, residency, income and resources will be reviewed to determine eligibility. Learn how to apply for CIHCP.
