CRIMINAL MATTERS

RESETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL CRIMINAL CASES; HOWEVER, THE COURT ASKS THAT DEFENSE ATTORNEYS AND DEFENDANTS ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING RESET PROCEDURE:

DEFENDANTS WITH ATTORNEYS

  • Until further notice, Attorneys are required to reset their client’s cases via electronic communication PLEASE DO NOT APPEAR.
  • The Defense Attorney is to download Court 6’s Electronic Reset and email the Electronic Reset with their client’s signature to the Court Coordinator at Court6Criminal@fortbendcountytx.gov.  Please include the date your client is scheduled for court in your email.  The Court will allow the Defendant’s Attorney to sign the Reset on the Defendant’s behalf, with the Defendant’s permission.  The Court will email a final copy with the Defendant’s new court date.

Court’s 6’s Electronic Reset

  • Defense Attorneys may request an Electronic Reset no earlier than a week before the scheduled court date.
  • The signed Electronic Reset MUST be returned to the Court the day before the Defendant’s scheduled court date (can be after hours). If the Court does not receive the Electronic Reset by the above deadline, the Defendant must appear in person to sign a Physical Reset. If the Court does not receive an Electronic Reset or Physical Reset, a bond forfeiture/failure to appear warrant will be issued.
  • It is the Defendant’s responsibility to stay in contact with their bondsman and their attorney.
  • Defense Attorneys, it is also your responsibility to stay in contact with your client.

DEFENDANTS WITHOUT AN ATTORNEY

  • Defendants without an attorney are required to appear in person on their scheduled court date.

COURT COSTS RESETS

  • The Defendant is responsible for paying their balance in full by the date provided on their Court Costs Reset.
  • If the Defendant is unable to pay their balance in full, he/she is required to appear in person on their scheduled court date.  If the Defendant does not contact the Court and does not appear in Court on their scheduled court date, a Failure to Appear Warrant will be issued.

CRIMINAL PLEAS

  • The Court must be informed at least one week prior to the desired plea date to be added to the Plea Docket.
  • The ADA will provide the plea paperwork to the Defense Attorney, so please email the appropriate ADA to obtain the plea paperwork.
  • Plea paperwork must be completed electronically and submitted to the Court no later than 2 business days before the scheduled court date.
  • If the plea paperwork is not turned in on time, the case will be Reset to the next available plea setting.

CRIMINAL MOTIONS:

  • Criminal Motions are heard in person.  The Motion/Order MUST be filed prior to requesting a hearing date.  To request a hearing date, email the Court Coordinator at Court6Criminal@fortbendcountytx.gov
  • If you are Pro-Se Defendant and do not have access to email, you may contact the Court Coordinator by phone at 832-471-1165.
  • The scheduling party is responsible for noticing the other party/parties of the hearing.

CRIMINAL TRIALS:

Trials are heard on Tuesdays at 11:00 AM (in person).  Trial cases will be scheduled for a mandatory pre-trial hearing, which will be heard the Friday before the scheduled trial date at 10:00 am (in person).  To request a trial date, email the Court Coordinator at Court6Criminal@fortbendcountytx.gov.  The Court requires 30 days notice if any Pre-Trial Motions need to be heard.

JAIL DOCKET

The Jail Arraignment Docket is heard by Associate Judge Lewis White at the Fort Bend County Jail courtroom on Wednesdays at 8:30 A.M. The deadline for attorneys to schedule an inmate on the docket is, without exception, at 4:00 PM on the Monday preceding Wednesday's docket.
