Approved Boarding Homes in Unincorporated Areas of Fort Bend County [PDF]
On October 5, 2021 Fort Bend County Commissioner’s Court adopted regulations governing Boarding Home Facilities and employees. All Boarding Homes located in the unincorporated areas of Fort Bend County are required to be permitted in accordance with the Fort Bend County Regulations.
A Boarding Home is defined as an establishment that:
- Furnishes, in one or more buildings lodging to three (3) or more elderly and/or disabled persons who are unrelated to the owner of the establishment by blood or marriage; and
- Provides community meals, light housework, meal preparation, transportation, grocery shopping, money management, laundry services, or assistance with self-administration of medication to persons/residents who are capable of feeding, dressing, moving, self- evacuation, bathing and attending to other personal needs or maintenance without assistance; and
- Does not provide personal care services to persons/residents.
Before applying for your Fort Bend County Boarding Home Facility Permit and Employee Permits, you must first apply for a construction permit in order to obtain your Certificate of Compliance.

Step 2: After obtaining a passing fire inspection and Certificate of Compliance, then you may complete the Boarding Home Facility Permit Application. In addition to the facility permit, owners will have to complete the Boarding Home Employee application as well. All boarding home applications must be turned in at the Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office in person.
