Lieutenant James Burger oversees the Internal Affairs Division. He is responsible for the coordination and supervision of all Internal Affairs investigations. The IA Division assists other local police agencies in and out of Fort Bend County with administering polygraphs at their request.

The Internal Affairs Division also receives and investigates citizen’s complaints. The members of this unit also answer questions about department policy and procedures. The unit investigates complaints such as:

  • Excessive Force
  • Misconduct
  • Inadequate law enforcement service

When a citizen has a complaint against an employee of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (commissioned or civilian), the complaint is directed to the Internal Affairs Office, located at 1840 Richmond Parkway, Richmond TX 77469. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. If the office is closed, you may still file a complaint with any Sheriff’s Office supervisor, who will then forward your report.
